synthetic polymer thickener
Synthetic polymer thickeners are polymers with (meth)acrylic acid as the main component and a molecular weight of hundreds of thousands to millions. Water-soluble polymers with large molecular weights dissolve in water to thicken them. The thickening mechanism is mainly due to entanglement of polymer chains.
There are aqueous solution type products in which polymers are dissolved in water and emulsion type products in which polymers are emulsified in water. Its products have low viscosity and are easy to handle. Emulsion-type thickeners are called alkaline thickeners because they use alkali to dissolve and thicken the polymer during use. Among the alkaline thickening types, those without association groups are called ASE (Alkali-Soluble Emulsion) types, and those with association groups to enhance thickening power are called HASE (Hydrophobically modified Alkali-Soluble Emulsion) types.
We have a lineup of products with different thickening power and rheological properties, and provide thickeners with the best rheological properties according to your needs.
As shown in (c), the polymeric viscoelasticity modifier binds and adsorbs on the particle surface at several points. When this polymer encounters other particles, it binds and adsorbs to the surface of the particles, creating bridges between the particles.

When this polymer encounters other particles, it binds and adsorbs to the particle surface, forming bridges between particles.
As the bridging proceeds, a network-like ensemble forms, as shown in (d), and the viscosity increases.
