DTPA diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid
DTPA is a pentavalent salt with similar physicochemical properties to EDTA. The free acid is an odorless white crystalline powder that is practically insoluble in water but soluble in alkaline salts. Since it has 8 ligands, the coordination positions can be completely filled with metal ions with a coordination number of 8. Industrially, it can be used for exactly the same purpose as EDTA. Due to the high chelation stability constants of rare earth metals and heavy metals, it will not be disturbed even if phosphate ions coexist. EDTA and NTA are not suitable as stabilizers for hydrogen peroxide, but DTPA shows excellent results.
