Travel Tips for Visiting Australia

AUG 29, 2017 BY AISHA ADELE visibility507

Visiting the Down South can be a thrilling experience for travellers from the Western hemisphere. There are so many things to see and enjoy that you won’t typically see in other parts of the world. While Australia can be one of the best countries to visit on earth, it’s important to be well-informed travellers. While Australia is culturally a Western country, some of the customs may be unfamiliar to visitors from Europe or North America. If you are planning on travelling to Australia, here are several things to know about in advance:

Set a Budget First

It’s not wise to travel Australia without setting a budget first. These countries, while fun to travel, are also quite expensive. You need to create a budget for transportation, accommodation, and other activities to make sure you don’t spend all your money while in the country. Having a budget will also help you purchase the best services for what you can spend.

Plan Accommodation in Advance

Depending on the season you are travelling, finding accommodation could be difficult. Therefore, planning early is absolutely essential to finding good places at decent rates. You may need to book early for popular attractions. For example, plan to find your Mornington Peninsula accommodation really early when travelling in the summer. Browse around to find places to stay according to your budget. For example, if you are a budget traveller, you might want to consider hostels or home stays instead of staying at a regular hotel. On the other hand, if you are a luxury traveller, you might want to find your pick among the high-end hotels in the area you are visiting.

Read about Weather and Seasons before You Go

Australia is located in the southern hemisphere, so the seasons occur in the reverse. Before you go, find out what the season and the climate are for the area you are planning to travel to. In many parts of Australia, the weather can be unpredictable in any given season. In Melbourne, for example, it’s not uncommon to experience sunshine and showers on the same day in warmer seasons. Therefore, read the weather reports before you plan your itinerary.

Use Public Transportation to Save Money

You don’t have to call an Uber to travel short distances in the country. Australian cities like Sydney and Melbourne have excellent public transportation systems that visitors can use. Calling Ubers or taxis might be a waste of money. There is also public transportation between cities as well, so you might be able to save up on airfare. If you want to travel in luxury, however, many city areas offer sedan car services.

Pay Attention to the Warning Signs at Beaches

Don’t be too eager to jump in and swim at a charming Australian beach. Some Aussie beaches are notorious for sharks, stingrays, and other creatures that can harm humans. Therefore, always pay attention to local warning signs on display. Don’t swim in any place where you see a red or a yellow flag. If you are not sure, ask the lifeguard at the beach. There will always be one. If you don’t see a lifeguard, it’s not wise to go swimming.
